From the recording Backpack
Backpack is a reference to the past we all carry around with us and reminder that it is what shapes who we are today. While it's important to remember our past, it's also important to not let it hold us back from doing amazing things. Adjust your lens and find the positives.
Stylistically, it takes from some of my favorite artists like Everlast, Beck, Soul Coughing, and the Eels. While it features the simplicity of an acoustic guitar and bass, its real backbone is the breakbeat and some creative layering of samples. With some layered vocals, this short 2 minute track is a true throwback to the way music was produced 30 years ago.
Backpack was written, recorded, produced, mixed, & mastered by Dylan Peters. Vocals were recorded at the Foundry Recording Studio in Bethlehem, PA.
Lyrics
A worn out backpack full of mistakes
They rattle like the plastic bottles that we struggle to drink
On our way back home on Sander Alley
I guess the broken ones are the ones that we keep
Uh huh
Late night come home and I feel exhausted
But I'll say I'm alright yeah
Sometimes it doesn't go the way we wanted
But I'm doing fine
Because the mountains you climb give us something to do
When you open your eyes to incredible views
You adjust your lens, you'll see what I do
The only problem you have are you
And a worn out backpack full of mistakes
It keeps reminding me good company's not company we keep
As we second guess our promises and what we all believe
I guess the good ones are the ones that we break
Uh huh
Uh huh
Uh huh
Yeah
I've got a backpack full of mistakes
Cuz every good intention is tempting to break
